Crater Lake & Scenic Cascades Bicycle Tour – Day 4
Relaxing and taking in the sites, shops, and bistros in Bend or maybe a white water rafting trip on the Deschutes River (non-riders), Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway (riders)
An optional rest day awaits you on day four of our Crater Lake and Scenic Cascades Bicycle Tour. If you ride or rest, lunch is on your own today. Breakfast and a group dinner are included in the Via Bike Tours fee.
For those inclined to ride, we have a truly spectacular route.
We board the van for a 75 minute shuttle to the southern terminus of the Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway. We ride this stunningly picturesque road north, back to Bend. The byway follows a volcanic landscape carved by water and accentuated by 14 alpine lakes with scenic views of South Sister, Broken Top, and Mt. Bachelor. We have a casual lunch at Elk Lake Lodge, known for its Oregon home-style specialties all sourced from sustainable local producers. We may want to take a swim in the lake before straddling the bike for a climb up the lower flanks of Mt. Bachelor past the ski area entrance. From here it is a fast downhill on a smooth, wide shoulder all the way back into Bend. Yeehaa!
Dinner tonight is at 900 Wall followed by a brew pub crawl for those who wish to sample an assortment of outstanding Northwest beers.
