Britt Orchestra at Crater Lake Bicycle Tour
Day 1 Ride Around Crater Lake
With the dramatic panorama of the entire lake as the backdrop, listen to the elite musicians of the Britt Orchestra play the world premier of a Crater Lake music piece by New York’s Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Michael Gordon on this glorious bicycle tour. We will shuttle you from Medford Oregon to Crater Lake National Park for the morning performance. Then you either bicycle or take our shuttle to the many scenic overlooks where groups of quartets and trios will play background music as you gaze down 2,000 feet at one of the deepest, bluest, clearest lakes in the world. 1
You have the option to ride or shuttle the entire 35 mile Crater Lake Rim Road or choose a mix of segments to ride and shuttle. We provide a picnic lunch after the first performance, and snacks and water along the way to keep you energized throughout the day. The loop ends at the historic Crater Lake Lodge where we are some of the lucky few who have rooms and lake views for the night.
We regroup in the early evening for a social hour on the iconic back deck of the Lodge. Hobnob with the other visitors or just relax and absorb the amazing view. Dinner is on your own tonight. We recommend dining at the Lodge.
- The tour itinerary may change once the final concert schedule is established.
Day 2 Ride the Highway of Waterfalls
On the following day, with the music fading in the background, we ride or shuttle out of the north entrance of the park toward enticing Diamond Lake. A short ride option begins here, skimming the shore of Diamond Lake on a pleasant bike path with views of the spire-like Mt. Thielsen dominating the skyline across this pretty mountain lake. Stop for lunch (not included in the tour price) at the Diamond Lake Resort before continuing via bike or shuttle on a 40 mile downhill jaunt along “The Highway of Waterfalls.” Clearwater, Whitehorse, Watson, and Toketee Falls are easily accessible and a visual feast for the eyes. The exhilarating music of thundering water is today’s soundtrack and it accompanies us down the Umpqua River canyon to our destination today, the renowned Steamboat Inn. Settle into your cabin and unwind on its deck overlooking the river as you anticipate a spectacular wine reception and gourmet dinner in the cozy lodge.
Day 3 Shuttle to Medford
The adventure ends on the third day with a morning shuttle back to Medford. We should arrive in Medford around noon. Here we say our goodbyes with fond memories of our wonderful journey together.
